Drum lessons in Amarillo

We are not teaching drums at the moment. There is no drum teacher at the studio yet, we are talking to one, and until that is real this page is a waiting list rather than an offer.

Where this stands today

No drum teacher, so no drum lessons.

Five teachers work here and between them they teach guitar, bass, piano, voice, saxophone and clarinet. None of them teaches drums, so there is nothing to book and nothing to pay for, and you should not have to read three paragraphs to find that out.

Grant Fithen is in conversation with a drum teacher about joining. It is a conversation and not an agreement, which is why there is no name here, no start date and no price. When there is a teacher this page will say who, from when, and what it costs, the same as every other instrument.

The short answers

Do you teach drum lessons in Amarillo?
Not at the moment. There is no drum teacher at Launchpad Music Academy right now, so we are not booking drum lessons and we are not taking money for them.
Will you be teaching drums?
Grant Fithen is in conversation with a drum teacher about joining. Nothing is agreed, so there is no name and no start date on this page, and there will not be one until there is something real to put here.
What happens if I put my name down?
You go on the list, and you hear from us as soon as there is a drum teacher and a time. There is nothing to pay, nothing is held, and nobody will ring you about anything else unless you ask.
What can I actually learn there now?
Guitar, bass, piano, voice, saxophone and clarinet, one to one, every week at 818 SW 7th Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79101. Monday to Thursday, 9:00am to 7:00pm, by appointment.
Can you recommend somebody else for drums?
Ask. Write to launchpadmusicacademy@gmail.com and if we know somebody good who is teaching drums in Amarillo we will say so, which is more use to you than a waiting list.

What is written and waiting

The drum course is already written, which is the one thing we can honestly show you. It runs ten levels, and the first of them is where a beginner starts:

  • The names of the drums, setting a kit up, and how to actually hold the sticks
  • Basic rudiments, the paradiddle, and feeling the beat
  • Then behind the full kit: a straight rock beat, moving from hi hat to ride mid groove, a first fill
  • Fills round the toms, the rim shot, cross stick, and building dynamics
  • Reading a chart, switching between sections, and ending a song cleanly
  • Playing solidly to a metronome, then standard notation, then jazz

When drum lessons do start, a student needs a practice pad, sticks, something to play on at home and hearing protection. The hearing protection is not optional and it is the first thing we will say to you.

Taught here now

If a drummer in your house is the one waiting, these are the lessons that are real today, one to one, same teacher every week:

Where to next

The bass page is the closest thing we have to a drum lesson at the moment, because the first month of it is time and feel rather than notes. Otherwise: everything we teach, what a lesson costs, or write to launchpadmusicacademy@gmail.com and ask.

Book your first lesson.

Pick Drums on the form and you go on the list. Nothing to pay, nothing is held, and you hear from us as soon as there is a drum teacher.
