Accessibility
Music is for everyone. If something on our website, in our app or at the studio makes it hard for you to take part, we want to hear about it and we will fix it.
Tell us about a barrier
Email launchpadmusicacademy@gmail.com with Accessibility in the subject line. Please tell us, if you can:
- the page or screen you were on, or what you were trying to do
- what went wrong
- the device, browser and any assistive technology you use, such as a screen reader or a magnifier
We reply within 5 business days. We will work with you to fix the problem, or to give you the same information or service another way while we fix it. You can ask for any page, policy or lesson material in another format.
If you need help straight away, for example to book or change a lesson, email us and we will do it for you.
The standard we are working to
We are working to make launchpadmusicacademy.com and app.launchpadmusicacademy.com meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Those are the widely used international standards for accessible websites.
We are working toward that standard rather than claiming we have met it. Our own team has gone through the website and the app and fixed what that pass found. Nobody independent has audited us yet.
What we do
- Write in plain language.
- Make sure pages work with a keyboard alone, without a mouse.
- Label buttons and form fields so a screen reader can announce them, and announce what happened after you press something.
- Keep enough contrast between text and background, and let text be enlarged without breaking the page.
- Never rely on color alone to carry something important, such as whether a lesson will be charged.
- Keep tap targets big enough to hit on a phone.
- Build the website and app to work on phones, tablets and computers.
- Check new features for accessibility before we release them.
Where we know we still have work to do
We would rather say this plainly than let you find it out.
- Listening and microphone tools. The tuner, sight reading and ear training tools depend on hearing, or on playing into a microphone. The tuner shows pitch visually as well as by sound. If a tool does not work for your student, tell your teacher and we will adapt lessons and practice to fit.
- Music notation. Sheet music and tab are drawn notation, and a screen reader cannot fully read them. We can provide materials in other formats, such as large print or a described version, on request.
- Payment pages. Card payment forms are provided by Stripe. We choose settings that support accessibility, but we do not control their page.
- Independent testing. Our website and app have been checked by our own team and by automated tools, but not yet audited by an independent accessibility tester.
Visiting the studio
Lessons take place by appointment inside Spacecamp Studios, a private building at 818 SW 7th Avenue in Amarillo. The building is under renovation.
If you or your student need any accommodation to get into the building or take part in a lesson, please tell us before your first visit so we can have it ready, and so we can tell you honestly what the building is like on the day. We would rather sort that out in advance than have you arrive and find a problem.
